Chief executive officer of Valens Global
Dr. Daveed Gartenstein-Ross is the founder and chief executive officer of Valens Global, a private firm focusing on the security and geopolitical challenges posed by violent non-state actors (VNSAs), and is also a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. Gartenstein-Ross is also currently a senior advisor to the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Community Partnerships, where he has played a key role in shaping and executing the U.S.’s domestic countering violent extremism (CVE) policies, and serves in an advisory role at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, where he focuses on fashioning agile responses to emerging strategic trends. The author or volume editor of twenty-two books and monographs, Gartenstein-Ross is currently working on a new book, for which he was awarded a grant from the Smith Richardson Foundation, that explores the evolution of jihadist external operations against Western countries. Gartenstein-Ross previously served as an adjunct assistant professor in Georgetown University’s security studies program (2013-17) and as a fellow with Google’s think tank Jigsaw.
